Project #2: Baby Butterfly Shirt

Here's yesterday's project!

The Baby Butterfly Shirt.  I got this idea from here.  The pattern cost money to get, so I attempted to make my own pattern.

I looked at her pieces and just tried to mimic the look. To the right is the sleeve, and below is the bodice.

I then put the bodice pieces right sides together and sewed the side seams by starting at the bottom of the armhole down to the  bottom corners of the shirt.

I then cut strips that were about 2 inches wide and the length of the armhole.  You then fold that piece in half and then fold the 2 edges into that fold as shown above and below.

Then I just pinned that piece onto the armhole and edgestitched it down.
Next I did the same sandwiching of the fabric as I did with the armhole covering, except I used my contrasting fabric and made it the length of the edge of my sleeve.

Then I attached it to my sleeve by edge stitching again.

After that I matched up the top of the armhole and the top of the sleeve and stitched them together by stitching directly on top of my old seam as shown below:

This is the result:
Next, I put about 4 inches of ease stitching on the front and the back of the shirt, and then ease stitched the entire sleeve of both sleeves. Then I gathered them.

After that I did another hotdog strip for the collar, pinned that on and edge stitched again.

After completing that I cut a slit into the front of the dress, zig-zagged the edge to prevent fraying, then turned that edge under and stitched it down. I put a button and sewed on some elastic to make an opening so her head would fit through the top.

I did one more hot dog strip for the bottom of the shirt and edge stitched that one on too.  Voila! Finished! You now have a cute and totally unique shirt!

Finally, more crafting!:)

Hurray! I finally got to making a new craft!:)  I went onto Pinterest and found a project that I've been meaning to do forever(There are SEVERAL!) and just picked one out! Tonight I chose to do the pom-pom flower headband.

I got it from this website. Just for fun though I went ahead and took pictures of my own to post.  Here goes!
First I cut out a bunch of circles of my fabric(probably 1 1/2 inch circles) that I wanted to be the pom-pom flower.
Next I grabbed the center of the circle and scrunched it up.  I then put hot glue on the tip.

I then stuck the glued, scrunched circle onto a circular piece of felt that I had cut out beforehand

I forgot to take a picture, but I just took a second piece of felt, cut a tiny slit into it so that I can slip a clip into it(for attaching it to my headbands), and then placed glue around the edges and glued it down to the first felt circle.  If you're confused, I have pictures at the bottom of this post.  It's the second method for attaching a clip to a hairpiece.

And there you have it! A pom-pom flower accessory!

I liked it so much that I went ahead and made another one out of an old pair of jeans!

A bath, a quilt, and 2 months!

Well not too much has been happening.  Just waiting for Siena to get used to her shoes, but I have seen improvements in her attitude, so that's good! She got her first real bath the other day! Because of all the casts, she hasn't had a full bath ever! So that was a fun day.

She seemed a little nervous at first, but quickly warmed up to it. So cute!:)

I also finally finished the quilt top I was working on for my Gma! I almost had it finished the day that Siena was born, but didn't quite get it done, so I just barely finished it the other day.
A couple of days ago I snapped a pic of Siena when she was making a bunch of bubbles with her mouth..lol:
Also, Siena is officially over 2 months old now! She turned 2 months old on September 21st! Unfortunately she wasn't really in the mood for pictures, but we got a few.

So that's pretty much it! Have a great day!

This is harder..

Ok, remember that post I made a while back called "this is hard"? Well..this is harder:
Letting your baby cry in the next room because you've already held her for almost 2 hours without her calming down and in order to keep yourself from breaking down in tears you have to let her cry in the next room for a little while..
Siena had her appointment to get her cast taken off today..and needless to say it went bad. The actual appointment was just fine. They used the saw, the pliers and everything went like normal.  However, when it came time for them to put the shoes on, Siena was so upset! They said that when the casts come off they basically feel that tingly feeling that we feel after your foot or something has gone numb..well she takes after her mother, and HATES that feeling apparently.
So anyway.  They put the shoes on and said that we have to take them off every 2-3 hours to check for blisters.  The shoes are some pretty tough leather and so until they are broken in(about a week to a week and a half) we have to keep checking for blisters.  The nurse tried to scare us, and she did a great job when she told us a story about some parents that when they took the shoes off their child, the shoes had worn the babies foot down to the bone/tendon..ummm ya, sufficiently scared! Thanks nurse lady!
Siena does not like the shoes and has surely let me know that.  She cried he whole way home and  hasn't really stopped since.  She had a mini break when I took her shoes off at 6:30 to check her feet and I went ahead and fed her then.  She hadn't eaten since 11am and was refusing to eat while the shoes were on..poor little girl!
So there ya have it..day 1 with the shoes down..night 1..here we go! Here's some pictures:
Her awesome new accessory

She was content for about 2 minutes after I put her shoes on the 3rd time..until I picked her up..poor girl!

All the moleskin that I have already put on her feet to prevent blisters

Lots to Blog about!

Well..it's been a while since I last posted. Luckily Joel has done pretty well with keeping things updated.  I guess I should get to the first thing: Siena's foot update.
Siena had an appointment about 3 weeks ago for her foot.  This was the appointment where they cut her Achilles tendon.  Here are some pictures from that:
After using "the saw" they use these pliers to pry the cast off.

Here's what her leg looked like so far! They said the dryness should go away after she gets her cast off.

They put some numbing cream on her heal and let it sit for 45 minutes

Siena and I then just chilled in the waiting room until the numbing cream had done it's job:

Next they took her back(I had to wait in the waiting room while they did the actual procedure).  Once they were done, they called me back so I could see the tiny incision they did on her heal to cut her tendon.
She did so good.  They said she didn't cry at all.

Poor little girl was sooo tuckered out after all of that.
So that's everything! She did pretty well with it.  She did wake up about every 2 hours that night..but the next night went a lot smoother.  She now has her appointment TOMORROW to get her cast taken off and start on the shoes! So exciting! We can finally give her a real bath!hah

Ok, what next..  Did I tell you that she balded?lol Like an old man too! She looked like our old stake president for a little while.. I finally pulled out our clippers, put on a 1 and shaved the rest off so it would grow in evenly.lol Also, is it bad that one of my favorite faces that she makes is a frowny face right before she starts to cry..?
How can you not love that face??
We also took some close up pictures of all the cute things you don't want to forget on a baby..such as the lips:
Too cute!
Also Steph and Chris came in town for Siena's baby blessing and I got a few pictures of all the kiddos together!

So fun! While they were over, Savannah saw the tutu that Vivian, Joel's mom, got for Siena.  It's a size 2 so it'll be a while before she can wear it.  I told Savannah she could wear it for the afternoon, and she was SOO excited! She put it on and ran circles around our living room!

I wasn't kidding when I said I had a lot to blog about..I still have like 3 more things..
She's started smiling!

In fact, Joel went in to put her to bed the other day, and when he went to sing her a song not only did she stop crying..but this is what he got:

Oh, she also has a new BYU T-shirt.  Gotta represent!lol  She wore it the other day when we went to watch the football game!

Last night we went to a BYU women's soccer game. We won 5 to 0! Great game!
Last, but not least.  Siena had her 2 month appointment today! Unfortunately this is the appointment when they get a bunch of shots..so she was poked and prodded and all sorts of things. She fell asleep on the way home and has been sleeping soundly ever since in her car seat(NOT NORMAL!lol) She usually hates her car seat!lol
So ya, lots has been happening! Hope all is well with everyone! I think I hear her waking up, right on time..better run!
