Where will the Reicherts be in less than a year?

Great news!! All of Joel's hard work has officially paid off! He has spent SO many hours working on his resume, cover letters, applying for jobs, going to interviews..etc! Well we can officially say that Joel has a full-time job lined up for after graduation! We accepted a job in....Drum roll please...

 This is the downtown:

The State capitol is here...
I got both pictures from google images..

AUSTIN, TX with Dell!

That's right ladies and gents! We're headin back to Texas! We'll probably leave Utah after Joel graduates, but he won't start work until August or September.  But so fun! Joel is really excited about the position he will be in so we couldn't be more happy with this decision! We're extremely excited and ready to start this next chapter of our lives together!
When we found out on Monday, we headed off to our favorite yogurt shop, Yogurt Land to celebrate:
Also, just a random cute picture of Siena from yesterday:

This weekend

Well! Lots happened this weekend! Siena turned 3 months old on Friday!  We hung out with family and friends, watched the BYU football game(great game by the way! Go Cougars!) and took more pictures! Here are some of those:
Hanging out with some of the old roomies:
I made fruit leather out of grapes and pears..It looks kinda nasty, but it's really good!

I also made a cute little coat for Siena out of an old blazer and a sweatshirt for the lining to make it warmer:

Old Blazer:

 New coat!

Then we took Siena's 3 month pictures:

These 2 are pretty typical..she is ALWAYS shoving as much of her hands in her mouth as she can at once!

Did I mention that she really likes to sit up?

We also went to hang out with the Sellers side of the family at a cabin up by Sundance.  The drive was so pretty on our way up there! The trees are all changing colors, it's definitely fall! Unfortunately though we only remembered to bring out the camera at the very beginning of the night so there are only a few pictures of just us.

We love fun with family and friends! So there you have it! Another great weekend!

Refashion: Zebra Dress

Ok, I actually made this a while ago but I forgot to post it, so here goes!
The Zebra Dress:

This was the original.  It's a pajama shirt that I just never wore.
I actually got the idea from Zulily.com with this dress:
I'd say it turned out pretty similar.
Alright well here's how I made it.
1. I decided to do the back of the dress in 2 pieces made up of the front of the shirt, and then the front of the dress was made with only one piece from the back of the shirt.  I measured out the panels(big rectangles) and cut them out.
*Note!! I made sure to cut it so that the bottom of the shirt would be the bottom of the dress so that I wouldn't have to do a hem later because it was already hemmed*

2. I stitched my 2 back pieces together but left about 2 inches of it "unstitched" because that is going to be the opening at the back of the dress. I then finished off the seam with a zig-zag stitch.
3.I sewed the front piece to the back by putting them right sides together and sewing up the side.  In order to make the armhole I backstitched about 2 inches down from the top of the front piece.  I then reinforcement stitched(1 mm) the edge of the armpit and turned it under then edge stitched that down.
4.I then did the same thing to my opening at the back of the dress. This is what that looked like:
5.Next I went to the shoulder pieces. For the front of the dress, I cut out 1 U shape of 2 different fabrics, one for the outside and one to line it.
6. I then sewed the 2 pieces together with right sides together, but left one edge unsewn so that I could turn it right-sides out later.
7. Before turning it right-sides out, you need to press your seams open so that it will turn correctly.  Next I cut out 2 half-U-Shaped pieces to make up the back shoulder part like so:
8. I repeated steps 6 and 7 for these 2 pieces.  I sewed my 2 half-U-shapes onto the full U-shape piece.  Once this was done, I gathered the tops of the Zebra print parts of the dress and attached them to the shoulder pieces by topstitching all the way around the circular pieces, making sure that the back edges matched up.  I folded under the raw edges of the back pieces and topstitched those parts too.  I attached a hook and eye and the dress was finished!

A New Outfit for Little Miss Siena, and trip to the Zoo!

2 days ago I made a new shirt for Siena.  I used an old shirt and transformed it into this for her:

I started with this shirt:
This shirt was a kids large.  I took the neck in, detached and reattached the sleeves, made an opening at the back of the shirt and put a hook and eye on it, and I made a little gathering detail on the front.  I took a few pictures of these steps, but unfortunately kept forgetting to take pictures, so here's what I do have:
I started out by cutting open the back of the shirt.  I actually ended up cutting all the way down the back and having a seam up the back of the shirt.  This turned out to be perfect for making the back of the shirt smaller, as well as making it easy to create a perfect opening in the back for the hook and eye.

Since I was working with a knit, I took a woven fabric and stitched it into the back where the opening and hook and eye were going to go.  This helped stabilize the fabric.
This is the finished product of the opening. It's only missing the hook and eye at this point, but that was the last thing that I did on the shirt.
Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of how I did the front on the shirt, but I basically cut the shirt like a baby's bib, but backwards.  I then cut a large square that I gathered at the top and attached to the front of the shirt. (let me know if you need a better explanation..)

I sewed up the side seams
Shortened the sleeves and took them in a little, then ease stitched the curve of the sleeve.  I then gathered the sleeve and attached it to the bodice.
These were the settings on my machine for the ease stitching:
After all of that, I just hemmed the bottom of the shirt, attached the hook and eye, and that was it!

To complete her outfit, I wanted to fix up some of her pants.  I got these pants a little while back, and they had frill along the bottom of them and they were super loose and baggy on her legs.  They looked a lot like this:
I really didn't like the frill, so I cut it off right next to the seam(It's a knit, so it doesn't fray-no hemming necessary).  The extra frill came in handy later when I made a little flower out of it and put it on the little shirt I made.  Next I made the pant leg skinnier becasue I wanted them to be more like leggings.  I did this by sewing up the side seam and the inside seam of the pants.  Here's a picture(my stitching is the white thread with some blue chalk lines)
I liked them so much I did it to 2 more of her pants:
They look so much better and are so cute as little legging-type pants.

Here is the final, full product:
It looked so cute on her! I made her wear it to the zoo the next day, which brings me to my next topic, the zoo!

Siena and I went to the Hogle Zoo yesterday with Beckham, Tricia and her 2 cousins! It was so fun! We saw the animals, rode on the carousel, and took some fun pictures.
There's a baby elephant in the background..kinda hard to see..

Cute little Beckham!
